Talking to the AI, exploring your home and looking after your designs.
Talk to the AI
Open a design and describe what you want in the conversation panel. The AI works on the live 3D home, so you can look around and check the result.
Be specific about rooms, floors and measurements. Try “Add a balcony to the first floor”, “Swap the kitchen and the dining room”, or “Move this wall 50 cm to the left”. Make one change at a time when you want to compare ideas.
Use a suggestion below the conversation to fill your draft, then adjust it before sending. Suggestions reflect your design and what you have selected.
Speak your message
Choose “Voice”, allow microphone access, then “Stop recording”. Review and edit the words in your draft before sending. “Send when I stop speaking” is optional and sends after a pause. Recordings stop after 60 seconds; press Esc to cancel. If voice is unavailable, type your message instead.
Try an idea or compare options
Select “Try as an idea”, or begin with “What if…”. The idea changes the live home: compare before and after, then Keep, Discard or Save as a copy. You can turn the option off before sending an ordinary edit.
Ask “Show me three options for the kitchen” to explore up to three alternatives. Choose one or save them as copies. Each option uses AI work. Save any copies you want before switching conversations or leaving the editor; unsaved comparison cards are temporary.
A few ways to ask
Use ordinary language. Name the floor and room, give dimensions when they matter, and say what you want to keep.
- Layout
- “Swap the kitchen and dining room, keeping the hallway clear.”
- Walls
- “Move the wall between the kitchen and living room 50 cm towards the living room.”
- Doors and windows
- “Add double doors from the kitchen to the garden, and a wide window above the sink.”
- Rooms
- “Turn the small bedroom on the ground floor into a study with a desk by the window.”
- Whole new ideas
- “Create a two-bedroom cabin with a big open kitchen and a covered terrace.”
- Renders
- “Show the kitchen from the garden doors, with warm evening light and pale oak finishes.”
Render a view from chat
Frame the home as you want to see it, then choose “Render this view” after an AI edit. This opens Renders and starts an image. You can also open Renders to choose a style and describe the materials or light. Compare the result with the original view and download it from the gallery. Rendering has its own usage limit.
Point and ask
With the editor focused, press C to point and ask. Point at the part of the home you mean, then describe the change in the conversation. This gives the AI context for requests such as “Move this wall over here”.
Undo a change
Use “Undo this turn” for the latest eligible AI change. Further edits can disable this action, and it is not restored after reloading. You can also use the editor's undo history with Ctrl Z on Windows or ⌘ Z on Mac. Try another idea whenever you like.
Import a Rightmove listing
On Import a listing, paste the property's Rightmove link. We fetch the listing, including its available photos and floor plans. Keep the page open while the listing and its images are saved. A removed listing or a site that blocks access cannot be imported.
In the editor, choose “Build this home” to let the AI use the saved floor plans, photos and listing details. If there is no floor plan, attach one and ask the assistant to build from it. Check the result against the listing and correct anything that looks wrong. An AI interpretation is not a measured survey.
Start from scratch or an example
Go to Home to start with a blank canvas or choose “Start from Sunset Beach House”. You can also use “Start from an idea” to describe a new home before opening the editor. The example becomes your own copy, ready to change. Your recent designs are on Home; Designs has the full collection, with rename, duplicate and delete actions.
Your designs are private
Your designs, listing assets and conversations are saved to your account. Other people using the app cannot open your designs. Deleting a design removes it and its files; duplicate a design first if you want to keep another version.
Which AI account does it use?
Admins use the app owner's ChatGPT account when connected; otherwise, chat uses the app's OpenAI API access, as it does for other people. Voice and renders always use the app's API access. Your Patchworks sign-in determines access; signing in does not connect your personal ChatGPT subscription.
The assistant shows the active AI account. Requests and the relevant design context are sent to that provider to carry out your changes. If AI is unavailable, you can still use the editor's manual tools.
Limits and taking a break
There are limits on saved designs, files, conversations, listing imports, voice recordings, renders and AI work. An AI request may take several model steps, so a step limit is not the same as a message limit. Daily usage is counted over the previous 24 hours, rather than resetting at midnight.
If you reach an AI or import limit, wait before trying again. Failed import attempts can count towards usage. If another AI request is already running, let it finish. You can keep opening your existing designs and using the manual editor.
If your design collection is full, delete an unwanted design from Designs before starting or duplicating another. Deletion is permanent; check the name in the confirmation first.
